DESCRIPTION

The side collision sensor RH circuit (bus 2) consists of the airbag sensor assembly and floor side airbag sensor RH.

The floor side airbag sensor RH detects impacts to the vehicle and sends signals to the airbag sensor assembly to determine if the airbags and pretensioners should be deployed.

These DTCs are stored when a malfunction is detected in the side collision sensor RH circuit (bus 2).

HINT:

DTC will be output when conditions for either of the patterns in the table above are met.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

NOTICE:

After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

PROCEDURE

1.	CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag sensor assembly and floor side airbag sensor RH.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

HINT:

If the connectors are not properly connected, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

(d) Disconnect the connectors from the airbag sensor assembly and floor side airbag sensor RH.

(e) Check that the terminals of the connectors are not deformed or damaged.

OK:

The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

2.	CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN)

(a) w/o Occupant Classification System

(1) Using a service wire, connect terminals 15 (BCR+) and 14 (BCR-) of connector B. NOTICE: Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(2) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

(3) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

(b) w/ Occupant Classification System

(1) Using a service wire, connect terminals 20 (BCR+) and 19 (BCR-) of connector B. NOTICE: Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(2) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

(3) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

3.	CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT)

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance: Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition M34-2 (BFR+) - M34-1 (BFR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher

4.	CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+)

(a) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

(d) Turn the ignition switch off.

(e) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

5.	CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)

(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance: Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition M34-2 (BFR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher M34-1 (BFR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

6.	CHECK FLOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH

(a) Connect the connector to the airbag sensor assembly.

*1 Floor Side Airbag Sensor LH *2 Airbag Sensor Assembly

(b) Interchange the floor side airbag sensor RH with LH and connect the connectors.

(c) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

Body Electrical > SRS Airbag > Clear DTCs

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Turn the ignition switch ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs.

HINT:

Codes other than DTCs B162B/85, B162C/85, B163B/86 and B163C/86 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

(h) Turn the ignition switch off.

(i) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(j) Return the floor side airbag sensor RH and LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.
