KIA Niro: Maintenance under severe usage conditions - for Europe

I: Inspect and if necessary, adjust, correct, clean or replace.

R: Replace or change.

Maintenance under severe usage conditions - for Europe

  1. Repeated driving short distance of less than 8 km (5 miles) in normal temperature or less than 16 km (10 miles) in freezing temperature
  2. Extensive engine idling or low speed driving for long distances
  3. Driving on rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, graveled or salt-spread roads
  4. Driving in areas using salt or other corrosive materials or in very cold weather
  5. Driving in heavy dust condition
  6. Driving in heavy traffic area
  7. Driving on uphill, downhill, or mountain road repeatedly
  8. Using for towing or camping and driving with loading on the roof
  9. Driving as a patrol car, taxi, other commercial use of vehicle towing
  10. Frequently driving under high speed or rapid acceleration/deceleration
  11. Frequently driving in stop-and-go condition
  12. Engine oil usage which is not recommended (Mineral type, Semi-synthetic, Lower grade spec, etc.).

Normal maintenance schedule - except Europe

The following maintenance services must be performed to ensure good emission control and performance. Keep receipts for all vehicle emission services to protect your warranty. Where both mileage and time are shown, the frequency of service is determined by whichever occurs first.

Normal maintenance schedule - except Europe

  1. Engine oil and engine oil filter
  • As it is normal for engine oil to be consumed during driving, the engine oil level should be checked on regular basis.
  • The engine oil change interval for normal operating conditions is based on the use of the recommended engine specification. If the recommended engine oil specification is not used, then replace the engine oil according to the maintenance schedule under severe operating conditions.
  1. Coolant (Engine)
  • When adding coolant, use only deionized water or soft water for your vehicle and never mix hard water in the coolant filled at the factory. An improper coolant mixture can result in serious malfunction or engine damage.
  1. Coolant (HEV Inverter)
  • When adding coolant, use only deionized water or soft water for your vehicle and never mix hard water in the coolant filled at the factory. An improper coolant mixture can result in serious malfunction or engine damage.
  1. Coolant (PHEV Inverter)
  • Recommend that the coolant be replaced by an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
  1. HSG (Hybrid Starter & Generator) belt
  • Inspect HSG belt for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oil saturation and replace if necessary.
  1. Spark plug
  • For your convenience, it can be replaced prior to it's interval when you do maintenance of other items.
  1. Dual clutch transmission (DCT) fluid
  • Dual clutch transmission (DCT) fluid should be changed anytime it has been submerged in water.
  1. Fuel additives
  • Kia recommends that you use unleaded gasoline which has an octane rating of RON (Research Octane Number) 95 / AKI (Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher (for Europe) or Octane Rating of RON (Research Octane Number) 91 / AKI (Anti-Knock Index) 87 or higher (except Europe).

For customers who do not use good quality gasolines including fuel additives regularly, and have problems starting or the engine does not run smoothly, one bottle of additives should be added to the fuel tank when the engine oil is replaced. Additives are available from a professional workshop along with information on how to use them. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner. Do not mix other additives.
